The season six Idol train begins this Tuesday January 16th. According to U.S.A. Today, the Fox schedule is very audition heavy with the Hollywood rounds wrapped-up in just two hours. Guest judges are Olivia Newton-John, Jewel and songwriter Carole Bayer Sager.
Jan. 16( 2 hour premiere): Minneapolis
Jan. 17 (2 hour): Seattle – Simon has reported Seattle was the worst city for contestants
Jan. 23 (1 hour): Memphis
Jan. 24 (2 hour): New York
Jan. 30 (1 hour): Birmingham, Ala.
Jan. 31 (1 hour): San Antonio
Feb. 6 (1 hour): Los Angeles
Feb. 7 (1 hour): “Rest of the Best” audition show
Feb. 13 & 14 (1 hour each): Hollywood round
Feb. 14 (1 hour): Semifinalists (top 24) named
Feb. 20 (2 hour): Top 12 males
Feb. 21 (2 hour): Top 12 females
Feb. 22 (1 hour): Results (two male, two female singers sent home)
Feb. 27 (90 minutes): Top 10 males
Feb. 28 (90 minutes): Top 10 females
March 1 (1 hours): Results
March 6 (1 hour): Top 8 males
March 7 (1 hour): Top 8 females
March 8 (1 hour): Results (two further males and females eliminated)
March 13 (2 hour): Finals begin with top 12.
March 14 (30 minutes) one finalist goes home
According to the American Idol cover story in Entertainment Weekly, producer Nigel Lythgoe says there is no obvious winner this season. Big names such as Mariah Carey and Paul McCartney have been mentioned as possible guest performers although they are not confirmed. A songwriter contest for the winner’s single is also planned for this season.
